STUDENT OF THE YEAR

This award honors a current Kentucky graduating senior who demonstrates an exceptional understanding of financial literacy and motivating others to learn about personal finance. A one-time $500 cash award will be issued to the selected student.  The winning student’s name and school will be announced in a press release issued after the prize has been distributed.

To be considered for the Kentucky Jump$tart Student of the Year award, you must submit specific materials throughout the application. You will need to include the following documents:

• Completed Application
• High school transcript
• Budget Spreadsheet
• Recommendation Letters (3)

The Kentucky Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy reserves the right to award fewer or no prizes in the event there are insufficient numbers of qualified entries. The coalition will determine, at its sole discretion, whether each entry meets the entry criteria. The coalition reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with contest rules.

3. List and describe the experiences or activities you have participated in that demonstrated your financial literacy awareness. Examples: Stock Market Game certificate, Virtual Business Challenge, Career and Technical Student Organization Events, EVERFI Modules, etc.

1. What are your goals for the future which include on how you plan to make money and what you learned about the importance of financial literacy? Please include how it impacted you and who taught you about financial literacy.

2. What have you done to educate others about financial literacy? Example: Community volunteer activities that includes teaching about personal finance or working with senior citizens.

1. Your friend Shannon wants to buy a car and saves most of his/her money each month. Your friend spends most of his/her money going out and having fun. Shannon misses going out with friends and wonders if it’s okay to spend a little money on activities. Based on your spending experience and personal finance knowledge, what would you recommend to Shannon?

I affirm that I plan to demonstrate exemplary financial literacy knowledge as defined in those documents.  I give permission to officials of my institution to release transcripts of my academic record and other information requested for consideration in the Financial Literacy 2021 Student of the Year scholarship. I understand that this application will be available only to graduating seniors and Kentucky residents who need to see it in the course of their duties. I waive the right to access letters of recommendation written on my behalf. I affirm that all of this application, including the essays, is my own work for formally cited from other sources.
